Q

Muscarinic Antagonists

A

Use:
Atropine (Bradycardia, AV Block, Anti-ChE toxicity)
Oxybutynin (Overactive Bladder, Enuresis, Neurogenic Bladder)
Ipratropium (COPD, Rhinorrhea)

AEs:
* Dry Mouth (Xerostomia)
* Increased Body Temperature (Decreased sweating,
“atropine fever”)
* Urinary Retention
* Constipation
* Blurred Vision
* Tachycardia

CIs:
Urinary and GI obstruction
Glaucoma

Notes:
* Toxicity: Atropine Intoxication (dry as a bone, hot as
a stone, red as a beet, mad as a hatter, blind as a
bat)
* Tx: Pyridostigmine (Reversible inhibitor of AchE) –>
increase Ach –> stimulation of muscarinic receptors
