What did Chadwick do?
Wrote a report of public health in 1842 which wanted to improve public health conditions for those living in poverty
Introduced Board of Health who were responsible for improving public health.
Supported the government to pass the public health act of 1848

Outbreak of cholera happened, government took action on Chadwick ideas, set up a general board of health and helped organise the removal of rubbish and build answer system.

Parliament began passing more legislations on public health
Sanitary act 1866
Forced all towns to appoint inspectors to check water supplies and drainage.
Artisans Dwelling act 1875
Gave local authorities the power to buy and demolish slum housing - Led to the 1875 public health act which made local councils responsible for ensuring that clean water was available and public toilets, rubbish removal and sewers and drains.
Nightingale
Founded a training school for nurses at St Thomas’ Hospital in London
Reduced death rates in Crimean field hospitals. Therefore inspired some that actions could be taken in other settings
Improved sanitation and ventilations in hospitals.
