Jacob Marley tells Scrooge that his chain, which burdens him with guilt and regret, is made up of things he freely chose to do in life.
He implies that Scrooge should recognise some of the things that make up his chain and that scrooge will also be burdened in the afterlife if he does not change.

When the Ghost of Christmas Present throws Scrooge’s own words back at him, Scrooge realises he has chosen not to help the poor in the past and think the prisons or workhouses should look after them. He feels guilty for making such choices after seeing Ignorance and Want.

Scrooge chooses to donate a large sum of money to help the poor to compensate his miserliness and to make amends for his sins in the past because he understands his social moral duty to help the poor as he has seen the impacts of ignorance and wants.
