Enforced in 1979, a law put it place to stop the rapid population growth of china.
What are the problems caused from China’s one child policy?
Women were persuaded to have abortions as late as 7 months
Female infanticide, where girls are aborted as sons were favoured by the Chinese society
Creating a gender imbalance, men outnumber women by 60 million
Chinese boys became spoilt
Many Chinese men began buying wives from lesser countries as their were little suitable ones in china because of the imbalance
What are the benefits of the one child policy?
Forecast famine never happened
Estimate of 400 million fewer people to have been born
Reduced strain on services
Standards of living have increased
What happened If there was a second child born in the family?
The family would have to pay for everything unlike the first child
They could of been fined
Second child could not become a Chinese citizen
