How was over population managed?

A

“Later, longer, fewer” policy:

  • marry later
  • wait longer
  • have fewer children
  • in 1970s
  • average number of children went from 6 to 3

One Child Policy:

  • Introduced 1979
  • Carrot: higher wages, better schooling, etc.
  • Stick: lost all benefits, eg. healthcare
