Lin Biao (1907-71) - helped lead the Red Army to victory against Japan in WW2. Replaced Peng Duhuai as minister of defence in 1959. he was instrumental in aiding mao’s cultural revolution, in publishing the little red book. after the CR he feared that Mao had turned against him - he subsequently died in a plane crash attempting to flee.
