How do vaccines work?
Immunity may be active or passive
Active - produced by hosts immune system either from exposure illness or vaccination - serum antibodies, cellular response or a combination
Vaccines may be inactivated, attenuated live organisms or modified toxins
Vaccines given at 8 weeks old
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, haemophilus influence type B, Hep B, Pneumococcal, meningococcal, rotavirus gastroenteritis
Vaccines given at 12 weeks old
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, Hib, Hep b, rotavirus
Vaccines given at 16weekz
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hib, hep B, pneumococcal, Men b
Vaccines given at one years old
Hib, men c, pneumococcal, MMR, men B
Vaccines given at 3yrs 4 months or soon after
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio
MMR
Vaccines given to girls 12-13yrs
Cervical cancer HPV types 16&18 (& genital warts types 6&11)
Vaccines at 14yrs old
Tetanus, diphtheria, polio, meningococcal A/C/ W/ Y
Vaccines at 65yrs and above
65 - pneumococcal
65+ - influenza
70 - shingles
