What are clinical features of chicken pox
Ulcers- yellowish in colour Rash Cervical lymphadenopathy Fever General malaise
How does varicella zoster present in adults
Secondary infection in adults present as shingle
Pain
Unilateral rash
Mandibular zoster- buccal and lingual mucosa
Maxillary zoster- ipsilateral palate and vestibule
What is Ramsay hunt syndrome?
Lies dormant in trigeminal ganglion Seen only rarely- when shingles outbreak affects facial nerve near ear Rash in ear- hearing los Facial palsy Genilculate zoster Ipsilateral soft palate ulcers
Describe primary herpetic gingivostomstitis
Caused by herpes simplex virus
Systemic features- fever, malaise, cervical lymphadenopathy
Clinical characteristics- swollen gingiva
Vesicles on peri oral skin- vermillion border of lips and oral mucosa
Often disguised as teething
Lies dormant in trigeminal ganglion
Re activated by uv light, stress and immunodeficiency
When re activated- herpes labialis, herpetic whitlow- yellowish hue
Describe hand foot and mouth
Cocksackie virus Oral lesions- painful vesicles and ulcers anywhere in mouth Macules and papules on hands and feet Resolved in 2 weeks Highly contagious
What conditions are caused by the coxackie virus?

Vesicles also soft palate Fever Malaise Sore throat Swallowing difficulties Resolves in 1 weeks

Varicella zoster virus
