Socialised into traditional gender norms via ‘cult of femininity’

Shows how black boys lack a role model ( father) so they turn to male idols such as rappers and follow same characteristics as them
- Fine comfort with peers who undergo similar situation as them - follow hypermasculinity
Put less effort in school as feel education system against them - feel discriminated against
Young black youths had high goals = rejected academic work and turned to follow rappers portraying get rich quick mentality

Studied ‘Lads’ found they didn’t value education - only wanted to follow into father’s footsteps and have manual jobs therefore were pressured into disruptive behaviour
