A
- signs of child abuse can be hard to spot
- helps you to recognise the signs of abuse and support you if you have concerns about a child
- provide therapeutic services to help children move on from abuse, as well as supporting parents and families in caring for their children

What are the signs of child abuse?
A
- unexplained changes in behaviour or personality
- becoming withdrawn
- seeming anxious
- becoming uncharacteristically aggressive
- lacks social skills and has few friends
- poor bond or relationship with a parent
- knowledge of adult issues inappropriate for their age
- running away or going missing
- always choosing to wear clothes which cover their body
- concerning behaviour from adults

Why is it hard to recognise child abuse?
A
- signs are not always obvious
- child won’t tell anyone
- child doesn’t know they are getting abused

A
- bullying and cyberbullying
- child sexual exploitaiton
- child trafficking (children and young people tricked, forced or persuaded to leave their homes and are moved or transported and then exploited, forced to work or sold)
- criminal exploitation and gangs
- domestic abuse (witnessing any type of controlling, bullying, threatening or violent behaviour between people in a relationship)
- emotional abuse
- female genital mutilation
- grooming (someone builds a relationship, trust and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit and abuse them)
- neglect
- non-recent abuse
- online abuse
- physical abuse
- sexual abuse
