What are the Rx for ASD?
- Male
- Family Hx
- Fragile X syndrome
- Tuberous sclerosis
- Congenital rubella and phenylketonuria
What are the features of ASD?
- Addiction to restrictive repetitive behaviours, interests and activities
- Impairment in social interaction and communication
What is the management of ASD?
Psychotherapy: for patient and parents
• CBT
• Behaviour management programmes
Social:
• Respite care
• Education support in the form of learning support, SENCOs, special schools
Medication:
• SSRIs
• Risperidone
• Melatonin
What is ADHD?
Triad:
- Inattention
- Impulsivity
- Hyperactivity
What are the Rx for ADHD?
- Family Hx
- Maternal smoking in pregnancy
- Prematurity
- Male
How do you diagnose ADHD?
Symptoms should be:
o Present for at least 6 months
o Present in 2 settings (home and school)
o Present before the age of 6 to make a diagnosis
10wk watch and wait period
If symptoms persist -> referral to CAMHS
How do you manage ADHD?
- Ritalin - methylphenidate
- Lisdexameftamine
- Dexamfetamine
What must you monitor when on ADHD treatment?
Weight, height, CV exam
What is conduct disorder?
Child/young person repeatedly carrying out antisocial acts that cause distress and social impairment to themselves and disruption and damage to others
What is oppositional defiant disorder?
At least 6 months of negative, hostile, disobedient and defiant behaviour, without serious violations of societal norms or the rights of others.
