Vigorous shaking can lead to tearing of the the bridging veins, leading to hypoxic-ischaemic injury and retinal haemorrhage.

May present in acute encephalopathy - apnoea and seizures

  • Wide spectrum of symptoms - do not make sense together

What are the different types of female genital mutilation?

A

Type 1: Partial or total removal of clitoris (clitiroidectomy)

Type 2: Excision of clitoris and labia minora

Type 3: Narrowing of the vaginal orifice with covering seal created by stitching, and excision of clitoris, labia minora and majora

Type 4: any other non-medical intervention to genitalia e.g. burning, piercing, scraping
