The child is > 1 month old (this stage is around 1-2mo old)
In this child, we notice they can percieve depth, they smile, their “primitive reflexes” (like the grasping or suckling reflex) is diminished, they’re babbling, and they reach for things.
The infant is probable > ____ old.
The child is > 2 months old (this stage around 2-4 mo old)
This baby is cruising (walking only with support), grasping object with a thumb and finger, said first word!
The baby is probably > _____ months old.
The child is probably >7 months old (this stage 7-12 months)
Your baby just said their first word. Oh no, but you have amnesia and can’t remember their age. How old is it probably?
7-12 months old, just under a year
You better see a neurologist.
This baby presented before you walks and runs by themselves. They also make gestures to show you what they need and are starting to say words.
This baby is probably between ____ and ____ months old.
13-18 months old (~ 1 - 1.5 years). I’m using first work ~12 mo as a milestone, so if they’ve already said a word, you figure >12 mo.
This toddler already walks (they’re toddling!) and says words. In their bag of tricks is drawing a horizontal line (what a picasso) and throwing a ball (the next LeBron James!). They’re starting toilet training.
This baby is probably between ____ and ____ months old.
16 (~1.5 years) - 24 (2 years)
This toddler already walks (they’re toddling!) and says words. In their bag of tricks is drawing a horizontal line (what a picasso) and throwing a ball (the next LeBron James!). They’re starting toilet training.
Are they 3 yet?
No.
They’re probably 1.5-2 years old.
This little tyke can draw lines and throw balls. Now she’s drawing circles and riding tricycles! Going places! She’s also getting articulate with almost 1000 words (~800).
What are the lower/upper estimates of her age? Is she 3 yet?
Not yet.
She’s ~2-3 years old (24 mo to 36 mo)
This kid not only draws lines and circles, they are now able to draw SQUARES TOO!
Now, we’re pretty sure they’re older than ____.
3
This child looks at picture books, hops on one foot, and is starting to get grammar. They know ~1000 words. They can draw lines, circles, and squares.

This child is probably ___ to ___ years old. (They’re definitely ___ years old, but less than ___ years old)
4-5
PS Fun Fact: Einstein actually wasn’t a great student
This infant smiles when it see’s mom’s face and hears her voice. This child is not only supporting the head and chest but can now sit without support. You put M&Ms on the table and the child can’t pince them, it grabs them with its whole fist.
This baby is probably ___ to ___ months old.
About half a year old: 4-6mo
What comes first: (a) grasping with thumb and finger or (b) grasping with the whole hand (“prehensile grasp”)
Whole hand prehensile grasp: 4-6mo
Thumb forefinger pince: 7-12 mo
Think gross motor before fine motor
