1. Keep children comfortable
2. Oatmeal baths in lukewarm water - provide a crusty, comforting coating on the skin
3. Trim the fingernails short
4. Oral antihistamine
5. Safe antiviral medications - to be effective, they usually must be started within the first 24hrs of the rash
6. DO NOT USE ASPIRIN for someone who may have chickenpox, use of aspirin has been associated with Reye’s Syndrome
7. Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen may be used
