What are Kerley B lines?
Thickened, edematous interlobular septa. Causes include; 1. pulmonary edema
- lymphangitis carcinomatosa
- malignant lymphoma
- viral and mycoplasmal pneumonia
- interstitial pulmonary fibrosis
What is the silhouette sign?
Elimination of silhouette of soft tissue caused by a mass or fluid in the normally air filled lung
- EG: an intrathoracic opacity is in anatomic contact with the heart border obscuring its border
What is an air bronchogram?
The tubular outline of an airway being made visible by filling of surrounding alveoli by fluid
What volume is needed to make a pleural effusion visible on cxr?
250 ccs
What is the meniscus sign?
Crescent of gas near top of a mass lesion, signifying cavitation with a space above debris
- Seen in aspergilloma
What type of cancer do multiple masses indicate?
Metastatic
What is a pneumothorax?
-Air between visceral and parietal pleura
Which way does mediastinum move in tension pneumothorax?
Towards the good lung (away from the pneumo)
