common cause of chest pain in children and adolescents (occ less frequently in adults)/ sx= very intense; sharp pain;

typically at the left side of the chest;

generally in the cartilage bet. the bones of the sternum and rib cage;

worse when taking breaths.

lasts from few sec. to 0.5 hr
