chemistry topic 3 Flashcards
Melting
the change of state from solid to liquid
Boiling
The change of state from liquid to gas
Freezing
The change of state from liquid to solid
condensing
The change of state from gas to liquid
Sublimation
The change of state from solid to gas,or gas to solid
Endothermic
A change that takes in heat energy
Exothermic
A change that gives out heat energy
Diffusion
The gradual movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until evenly mixed, due to a random motion of particles.
Evaporation
When we heat liquid than the particles gain energy and move faster and faster.
freezing
the change of state from liquid to solid
Diffusion in gases
Gas particals are far apart andhave a lot of energy, so the particals can move quickly. This means that gases defuse the fastest.
Diffusion in liquids
Liquid particles have less energy and the particles are held together more strongly than a gas, their particles move slower than gases, so liquids defuse slower than gasses.
Diffusion in solids
Particles in a solid have the least energy and are the closest together, they defuse the slowest of all state matter, In fact, because the particles defuse so slowly we say that solids do not diffuse.
