Chemistry, the Rate and Extent of Chemical Reactions Flashcards
What is the equation for a Mean Rate of Reaction?
Mean Rate of Reaction= quantity of product formed ÷
Time taken
In a chemical reaction, 60g of product was formed in 15s.
Work out the Mean Rate of Reaction.
Mean Rate of Reaction= 60g ÷ 15s
Answer= 4 g/s
What is a reversible reaction?
A reversible reaction is where the products of a reaction can react with another to make the original reactants
What is equilibrium?
When the amounts of reactants and products have reached a balance and stay there
What is Le Chatelier’s principle?
If a system at equilibrium and a change is made to the conditions, the system responds to counteract the change
What happens if the concentration of reactants is increased?
If the concentration of reactants is increased
more products are formed until equilibrium is reached again
What effect does reducing the temperature have in an equilibrium reaction?
The endothermic reaction decreases and the exothermic increases
What would happen if you will raised the pressure on a equilibrium reaction?
The reaction with the lower volume would increase whilst the reaction with the higher volume would decrease
