Chemistry Term 1 Flashcards
Can mixtures be seperated?
Yes
What is a compound?
A compound is two or more types of atoms that are chemically joined together in fixed proportions that can be represented with formulae
What is the law of the conservation of mass?
The idea that no mass is gained or lost during chemical reaction because the particles are just being moved around to create a new product
What is needed for filtration?
Filter paper, filter funnel, conical flask, mixture, beaker
What is needed for simple distillation?
Distillation flask, solution, Bunsen burner, thermometer, Liebig condenser and conical flask
Order for simple distillation
Heating, evaporating, cooling, condensing
What is needed for fractional distillation?
Bunsen burner, mixture, rubber stopper, conical flask, fractionating column, ring clamp, stand, thermometer, condenser, beaker and lab Jack
Fractional distillation order
Heated, boiling point, cools up fractionating column, back into a liquid at condenser, liquid can collect in the beaker
Paper chromatography
Message for separating dissolve substances from one another usually when they are coloured
