Chemistry Revision Flashcards
What are some factors that would affect a chemical reaction?
Temperature, surface area (of any solid being used), concentration (of any liquid being used), and the use of a catalyst.
What is the definition of a catalyst?
A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of any chemical reaction without being used up.
Give the word and balanced symbol equation for aerobic respiration.
Glucose + Oxygen –> Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy
C6H12O6 + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
What is respiration?
Respiration is the process of releasing energy from glucose.
Where does respiration take place in cells?
Respiration takes place in the mitochondria of every cell, and provides energy for the cell to carry out its function.
What is an isotope?
Isotopes are different forms of the same element which have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons.
