chemistry practical Flashcards
acid + metal=
salt+hydrogen gas(h2)
acid + metal carbonate=
salt + carbon dioxide + water
law of conservation of mass states
The law of conservation of mass states that matter cannot be created or destroyed only rearranged
acid + base =
salt + water
what is needed in a practical write up
title, aim, hypothesis, equipment, diagram(can be used in method, method, risk assessment, results, discussion/observations,conclusion
what do you need to do for graphs?
Use pencil and ruler, include tite independent variable on x axis and dependent variable on y axis with units,scale-even,easy,enormous,plot points based off results and draw line or curve of best fit depending on which will show trend of graph better
which one is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable?
The independent variable is what is being changed and goes on the x-axis while the dependent variable is the result of the change or what is being measured and goes on the y axis.
what is decomposition?
The process of simplifying a chemical into two or more separate substances.
what are the types of decomposition?
Thermal,photolysis,electrolysis
How would you answer an application or analysis question?
Read the question carefully, look at how many marks it’s worth to get an idea of the criteria and refer to any graphs, diagrams, tables, flow charts etc in your response.
what are the melting and boiling points?
Melting point is when a solid become a liquid and boiling point is when a liquid becomes a gas.
