Chemistry H Unit 1 Test 9-16-22 Flashcards
energy
bigger term that includes potential energy (graviational, chemical, etc,) and kinetic energy (sound, elastic, etc.)
heat
subset of energy (kinetic energy) / total thermal energy of a system (J)
temperature
average kinetic energy (°C)
thermal conductivity
movement of heat (how fast heat can be transmitted)
heat capacity
how much heat that could be held (how much heat can be transmitted)
Convection
A liquid or gas rises as it is heated and sinks as it cools, moving heat
Conduction
Heat pases from atom to atom through a solid
Radiation
Heat moves as electromagnetic waves through air or space
accuracy
how close a number is to the true value
precision
how close a number is to the other values
How does density change through heat?
Heating a substance causes molecules to speed up and spread slightly further apart, occupying a larger volume while not changing the mass that results in a decrease in density.
