Chemistry CT2 Flashcards
Homogeneous Mixture
A mixture which the components mix with each other and its composition is uniform throughout the solution.
Heterogeneous Mixture
A mixture which the composition is not uniform throughout and different components are observed.
Mixture
Two or more substances that are mixed together
but not chemically joined.
Solution
A special type of mixture that is made when
a solid dissolves and mixes a liquid.
Solute
The solid that dissolves.
Solvent
The liquid that does the dissolving.
Dilute Solution
A solution that has a small amount of solute in a large
amount of solvent.
Concentrated Solution
A solution that has a large amount of solute in
a small amount of solvent.
Suspension
A mixture in which insoluble particles are suspended in a liquid or in a gas.
Solubility
A measure of how much solute can dissolve in
a solvent at a given temperature.
