Chemistry- Acids, mostly Flashcards
Get ALL the questions right
What is the reactivity series of metals?
Potassium Sodium Lithium Calcium Magnesium Aluminium Zinc Iron Copper Silver Gold
What is the base acid reaction when you react a metal oxide with an acid?
Acid + Metal oxide -> Salt + water
What is the base acid reaction when you react a metal with an acid?
Acid + Metal -> Salt + Hydrogen
What do you get if you react a metal hydroxide with an acid?
Acid + Metal hydroxide -> salt + water
What do you get if you react a metal carbonate with an acid?
Acid + metal carbonate -> salt + water + carbon dioxide
What colours can Phenolphthalein be?
Colourless acid, colourless neutral, pink alkali
What colours can Methyl orange be?
Red in acid, Yellow in alkaline
What is galvanising?
It is where you make zinc get oxidised instead of the iron.
How do you test for oxygen?
Relight a glowing splint
How do you test for hydrogen
Make a squeaky pop when a lit splint is placed over a container full of hydrogen.
Test for chlorine:
Chlorine bleaches damp litmus paper, turning it white. It doesn’t matter if it is red or blue litmus paper.
Test for CO2
Turns limewater cloudy
Test for ammonia
Turns damp red litmus paper blue
Test for water
Copper(II) sulfate crystals can be used as a test for water, when blue, the salt is hydrated, and when white it is anhydrous.
Pure water will always boil at 100C and freeze at 0C
