Chemistry #2 Flashcards
When two atoms share their electrons to get a full outer shell it is called :
A Covalent bond
How is a covalent bond caused ?
A covalent bond is caused when a nucleus that is positive charged is pulling on the other atoms electrons.
What is the strength of this pull called ?
It is called Electronegativity
What are the 2 popular ways of writing molecules ?
- Lewis dot structure
- Molecular formula
What is an ionic bond?
Answer in google dox
What is a salt?
A salt is a grid filled of ions.
What happens when the Electronegativity pull is 0.5?
When the Electronegativity pull is 0.5, the electrons are shared equally + there will be no pull.
What happens when the electronegativity is bigger than 0.5 but is smaller than 1.7?
This would mean that one of the elements is pulling on the other element’s electrons hard.
