Q

What is filtration

A

the process in which solid particles in a liquid or gaseous fluid are removed by the use of a filter medium that permits the fluid to pass through but retains the solid particles

Q

How did Mendeleev sort the periodic table

A

Mendeleev arranged elements in rows by increasing atomic mass. Within a row, elements with lower atomic masses were on the left. Mendeleev started a new row every time the chemical properties of the elements repeated. Thus, all the elements in a column had similar properties.

Q

A period is

A

A period is a horizontal row of the periodic table. There are seven periods in the periodic table, with each one beginning at the far left. A new period begins when a new principal energy level begins filling with electrons. Period 1 has only two elements (hydrogen and helium), while periods 2 and 3 have 8 elements

Q

A group is

A

Here are the main features of the table: the horizontal rows are called periods. the vertical columns are called groups. elements in the same group are similar to each other.

Q

The atmosphere today is made of

A

The atmosphere is mostly nitrogen (approximately 80%) and oxygen (approximately 20%). The remaining gases are found in much smaller proportions, such as carbon dioxide and water vapour.
