16
Q

What two things does the number of protons equal?

A

Atomic number and number of electons

17
Q

How do you find the number of neutrons?

A

Mass number- number of protons.

18
Q

What is the gas test for oxygen?

A

The test for oxygen is whether it relights a glowing splint.

19
Q

What is the gas test for hydrogen?

A

Hydrogen explodes with a pop when it is tested with a lit splint.

20
Q

What is the test for carbon dioxide?

A

Turns lime water cloudy.

21
Q

Where is carbon found?

A

In all living things, ocean, air, rocks.

22
Q

Does carbon stay in the same place? if not why?

A

Carbon dioxide is incorporated into living tissue through photosynthesis and it is returned to the atmosphere through resperation, the decay of dead organisms and the burning of fossil fuels.

23
Q

What is the balance of gases in the air?

A

Made up of different gases but mostly nitrogen.

24
Q

What does the air contain

A

78% nitrogen
21% oxygen
0.9% argon
0.04% carbon dioxide

25
Q

What is experiment to find out what percentage of the air is oxygen?

A

Full a plate up with water. Put a lit candle in the water. Place a jar over in but not fully down so the water can enter. Make a mark where the candle is when you start and once the candle has gone out make another mark. the percentage of oxygen in the air = change in water level divided by the height of jar times a 100.
