chemistry Flashcards
synthesis/ combination reaction
Combining 2 or more reactants to make one product
( A+B–>AB)
decomposition reaction
The break down of a reactants to form two or more products
(AB–> A+B)
Active vs Passive transport
Active transport are methods that require energy.
Passive transport are methods that do not require energy.
meaning of Solute and Solvent
solute is a solid, liquid, or gas which is dissolved to make a solution
A solute is dissolved in a solvent to make a solution.
A solvent is usually a liquid that a solute is being dissolved into to make a solution
Diffusion
transport from high concentration to low concentration through the cell membrane.
Osmosis
transport from low concentration to high concentration through the cell membrane.
Ionic, covalent, and polar covalent bonds
ionic bond- relationship between two atoms with different electronegativites where one atom steals electrons from the other
(>2.0 electronegativity)
polar covalent bond is the combination of a atom with a large electronegativity and a small electronegativity
(0.5-1.6)
covalent bond_ combination of two atoms withe the same electronegativity
(<0.5)
when asked which bond where the electronegativity is between 1.6-2.0 if it is a METAL than ionic IF NOT A METAL polar covalent.
