Chemistry 1.1 Flashcards
What is A Homogeneous Mixture
Has a uniform composition and has properties throught
What is Heterogeneous Mixture
Has a non uniform composition and does not have the same properties
What are the two big subdivision of Matter
Pure Substances: Elements, Compounds
Mixture: Heterogeneous and Homogeneous
What are Characteristics which make up a Element?
Substance made from 1 kind of atom and cannot be broken down into simpler substances in chemicak means
What are the Characteirstic of Compounds ?
Made of 2 or more elects which are chemically combined
Combined in a fix ratio
Compounds have different properties than the elements they are made from
What are Mixtures ?
Mixtures are substances which are made of more than one elements or compound which do nit chemically bond together.
They have no fixed ratio
No chemical bond
Retain their elemental individual properties
What is the Change of State from Solid to Gas and vice versa
Solid-> Gas Sublimation (When Heat is increased)
Gas-> Solid Deposition(Cooling)
Solid to liquid and liquid to solid
Solid-> Liquid Melting (heat)
Liquid->Solid Freezing (Cooling)
Liquid-> Gas and vice versa
Liquid to Gas (Evaporation/Boiling) heat
Gas to liquid (Condensatio) Cooling
Differences between boiling and Evaporation
-Evaporation is when the surface molecules of a liquid are converted into gas
- Evaporation takes place in a range of temperatures
-Boiling is when the inner water particles start to convert into gas
-Takes place at a specific Temperature( Boiling Point)
What separation Technique will you sue for a solution of salt+sand+water
1.Dissolution
2. Filatration
3.Evaporation
How to separate ethanol +water
- Distillation (Explain)
What are the differences between Distillation and Evaporation?
-Distillation is used to separate two liquid when they are miscible.
- Evaporation separate a solid soluvent from a liquid
