Chemistery Testing For Gases1 Flashcards
Testing for hydrogen what do we need ?
. This includes the gas hydrogen empty test tube filled with air.
. Testing for hydrogen we remove the Bing and insert a burning splint.
. Hydrogen gas bung rapidly and makes the squeaky pop noise.
Testing for oxygen , what does it need, what does it include.
. Test tube contains gas which might / most likely to be oxygen.
. To test for oxygen we use glowing splint.
. If the test tube contains oxygen the glowing splint will re light again.
Testing for carbon dioxide, what does it include, what does it need
.Test for carbon dioxide we need lime water on a test tube.
. With a straw blow into the lime water.
. If the lime water turns milked or cloudy then it is carbon dioxide.
Testing for chlorine, what do we do, and what is needed?
. We insert damp blue litmus paper into a test tube
. Chlorine bleaches the litmus paper and turns it white. That is how you know the gases is chlorine
What is portable water?
What is pure water?
What do they contain?
.Portable water means it is safe to drink.
.Portable water is not the same as pure water.
. Pure water contains no dissolved solid such as salt.
. Pure water has the Ph of 7
What does portable water contains?
. Portable water contains dissolved solid.
. To see if the portable water is at the ph of 7 we use universal indicator , if water if at Ph of 7, then turns green.
Tasting for oxygen what do we need and what happens.
.Test tube
.Glowing splint
If oxygen is here then it relights
