Chemical Reactions Flashcards
The process in which atoms are rearranged to produce new substances.
Chemical reaction
Uses chemical symbols and numbers to represent a given substance
Chemical formula
Is an expression that uses symbols to show the relationship between the starting substances and the substances that are produced by a chemical reaction
Chemical equation
The substances that participate in a chemical reaction. Their chemical formula is written on the left
Reactants
Substances formed in a reaction. There chemical formulas are written on the right
Products
States that matter is neither created nor destroyed in an ordinary physical and chemical change.
Law of conservation of mass
A chemical reaction that requires an input of energy
Endothermic reaction
A chemical reaction in which energy is released to the surroundings
Exothermic reaction
States that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but that it can change form.
Law of conservation of energy
