chemical reactions Flashcards
What is a chemical reaction?
A chemical reaction is when two or more el- ements are combined to form a new product.
What are the chemicals involved in a reaction called?
They are called reactants.
What are the leftovers of a reaction called?
They are called products.
What are the 2 ways to seperate a compound?
Filtration and distillation.
What is the scientific terminology for burning?
Combustion.
Copper+oxygen—>
Copper oxide.
What is an exothermic reaction?
It is when a reaction releases heat into it’s surroundings.
What is an endothermic reaction?
It is when a reaction takes in heat from the enviroment around it.
What three things do you need to keep a fire burning?
Heat,oxygen and fuel.
What is it called when there is not enough oxygen for a complete combustion?
An incomplete combustion.
What are non metal acids more commonly called?
Acids.
What does thermal decomposition do?
It is when heat speeds up the breakdown of particles.
What is a catalyst?
It is a substance that speeds up reactions .
What do catalytic converters do?
They convert harmful exhaust gases into less enviromentally damaging ones.
