Chemical Reaction Rates Flashcards
1
Q
What is meant by the rate of a reaction?
A
How fast the reactants are being changed into a product
2
Q
What are the 2 ways of measuring how much gas is produced in a rate of reaction of a gas?
A
1.measuring the change in mass before and after the reaction occurred
- Measuring the volume of gas given off from the reaction
- using a gas syringe
3
Q
What does the rate of reaction depend on? (Many factors)
A
-collision frequency
(How often they collide)
- energy transferred during collision
(The more energy in particles, the better the chance of particles colliding)
4
Q
What is a limiting reactant?
A
The reactant that will run out first which will stop the reaction (as no more product can be made - because it ran out)
5
Q
What is the excess reactant?
A
The extra reactant that is left after a reaction stops - this is when there is no more of the other reactant (limiting reactant)
