Chemical Reaction Quiz Flashcards
What is a combustion chemical reaction?
When oxygen combines with another compound to form water and carbon dioxide.
Ex:
C(10) H(8) + 12O–} 10CO(2) + 4H(2)O
What is a synthesis chemical reaction?
When two or more simple compounds combine to form a more complicated one.
Ex:
A+B–} AB
What is a decomposition chemical reaction?
A decomposition reaction is the opposite of a synthesis reaction. A complex molecule breaks down to make simpler ones.
Ex:
AB–} A+B
What is a single displacement chemical reaction?
This is when one element trades places with another element in a compound.
Ex:
A+BC–} AC+B
What is a double displacement chemical reaction?
This is when the anions and cations of two different molecules switch places, forming two entirely different compounds.
Ex:
AB+CD–} AD+CB
What is an acid-base chemical reaction?
This is a special kind of double displacement reaction that takes place when an acid and base react with each other. The H+ ion in the acid reacts with the OH- ion in the base, causing the formation of water. Generally, the product of this reaction is some ionic salt and water.
Ex:
HA+BOH–} H(2)O+BA
What does RXN stand for?
Reaction
What is the Law of COncentration of Mass?
mass is not created or destroyed, its conserved, changed, or rearranged.
