Q

errors caused by improper technique

A
  • formed elements tend to settle down so it may be undetected if specimen is unmixed
  • rgt strip remaining in the urine for an extended period of time may cause leaching of reagents from the pad
  • failure to remove excess urine to remain on the strip after its removal in the specimen may cause runover and produce color distortion (to remedy: blot the edge of the strip on absorbent paper and hold the strip horizontally while comparing it with the color chart
  • (include other tips here later)

24
Q

urine pH of px w/ old specimen

25
people on high meat and high protein diet tend to produce what pH of urine
acidic
26
people who are vegetarians have ___ urine (pH)
alkaline (due to the formation of bicarbonate after digesting of many fruits and vegetables; with the exception of cranberry - acidic)
27
urine pH above 8.5 indicates?
improperly preserved specimen (fresh specimen must be obtained again)
