Chemical Equilibrium Flashcards
what is a reaction’s equilibrium?
rate of forward reaction = rate of reverse reaction. e.g. rate of evaporation = rate of condensation. there is no net gain/loss but the system is still dynamic
what do you disregard when trying to find K?
solids and liquids. they’ll be 1 instead
what to do if reaction quotient is greater than 0? less than 0?
if greater, that means too many products so shift left. if less means too little products for shift right
what is le chateliers principle?
shift to reestablish disturbed equilibrium. changes in temperature, pressure, concentration, etc.
what to note about temperature change w le chateliers principle?
is it endothermic or exothermic? when added to products it is exothermic and will shift to left. when added to reactants will shift to right and is endothermic
how to change partial pressure in a system?
can change volume. will cause equilibrium to shift left or right
