Chemical Changes Flashcards
Acid+ metal oxide
Salt+water
Acid+Metal hydroxide
Salt+Water
Acid+ Metal
Salt +Hydrogen
Acid+ metal carbonate
Salt+water+carbon dioxide
Name 3 salts
Chlorides
Sulphates
Nitrates
What is a salt
Ionic compounds formed between metals and non metals
What for alkalis release when added to water?
OH- ions
Test for carbon dioxide gas?
Bubbling gas through lime water
If carbon dioxide is present it will turn the limewater cloudy
Precipitation reactions
Produces a solid from two solutions
This happens because the two solutions contain soluble compounds but they make an insoluble compound (the precipitate)
What re the solubility rules
Potassium sodium and nitrate salt are soluble
Most chlorides are soluble except lead and silver chlorides
Most sulphates are soluble except lead, barium and calcium sulfates
Most hydroxides, oxides and carbonates are insoluble except potassium and sodium salts
Concentration
Amount of substance divided by the volume
