Chemical Catalysis Flashcards
What is homolytic fission
Homolytic fission is a chemical bond dissociation of a molecule by a process where each of the fragments retain one of the originally bonded electrons equally
What is heterolytic fission
It involves cleavage of a chemical bond in a process where both of the electrons involved in the original bond remains with only one of the fragment species
What are all the 4 types of reactions organic compounds participate in
1) Substitution reaction
2) Addition reaction
3) Elimination reaction
4) Rearrangement reaction
What is acid base catalysis
Acid base catalysis is the acceleration of a chemical reaction by the addition of the acid or a base without the acid or base itself being consumed
Ex : Decomposition of sugar, sulfuric acid is used
Addition of hydrogen cyanide to aldehydes and ketones in the presence of sodium hydroxide
What is electrostatic catalysis
A transition state may be stabilized by electrostatic interaction between it’s charged groups and charged groups acts as a catalyst
Ex hydrolysis of glycine esters
