Q

A covalent bond formed by the atoms having _______ electronegativity is called _______ covalent bond.

A

different, polar
Footnote: A bond between H-Cl is polar covalent bond as the electronegativity value of hydrogen is 2.2 and that of cholrine is 3.16

Q

How does bond length relate to bond strength?

A

Short bond lengths corresponds to stronger bonds, whereas, longer bond lengths tends to be weaker.

Footnote: In short bond lengths the atoms are in close vicinity allowing better overlap of orbitals. Conversely, in longer bond lengths the orbital overlap is decreased.
