Chemical Bonding Flashcards
Nucleus
Has positive protons and nuetral nuetrons
Atom
Smallest part of an element
Negative electrons
Circle the nucleas in the shells
Atomic number
Number of protons
Mass number
Number of protons and neutrons
Compound
Two or more atoms of different elements have a chemical bonding joining them together
Octet rule
Atoms will bond together so that each atom attains an electron arrangment with 8 electrons in its outer shell
Ionic bonding
When one atom gives electrons and the other atoms takes electrons to get a full outer shell
Covalent bonding
Is when both atoms share electrons to get a full outer shell
Single covalent bonds
They occur when atoms shar on pair if electrons
Double covalent bond
Is formed when atoms share two pairs if electrons
