Chem2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the nucleus in an atom?
A
The nucleus is small compared with the overall size of the atom, extremely dense, and positively charged. It accounts for almost all of the atom’s mass.

Q
What are isotopes?
A
Isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons.

Q
How are isotopes identified?
A
Isotopes are identified by their Atomic Number (Z) and Mass Number (A). The mass number is the number of protons plus the number of neutrons.
