Chem Glassware & Pipettes Flashcards
calibrated to hold one exact volume of liquid (TC); has round lower portion with flat bottom and long, thin neck with etched calibration line
volumetric flask
designed to hold different volumes; has wide bottom that gradually evolves into a smaller short neck
Erlenmeyer flask
designed to hold different volumes; has flat bottom, straight sides, and an opening as wide as the flat base with a small spout at the lip
Griffin beaker
long, cylindrical tubes held upright by an octagonal or circular base; has horizontal calibration marks and used to measure volumes of liquids; do not have accuracy of volumetric labware
graduated cylinders
type of lab equipment used to transfer liquids; can be reusable or disposable; usually used for volumes <20 mL; designed to contain (TC) or to deliver (TD)
pipettes
pipette with continuous etched ring or two small rings located near the top of the pipette, meaning the last drop of liquid should be expelled into the receiving vessel
blowout pipette
pipette that can be drained by gravity; tip should remain in contact with the side of the vessel for several seconds after liquid has drained (except in Mohr pipette)
self-draining pipette
