Chem Flashcards
Explain Reactivity of an element
With non mentals the higher the electron affinity the more reactive an element is because it really really wants to gain an electron.
But the opposite is true with metals. The lower the inozation energy of a metal the more reactive it is.
more reactive= higher coloum for non metals
more reactive= lower coloum for metals
Explain Bonding Capacity of an element?
Basicly how many electrons are free and able in that elements valaence shells to pair up with more electrons. Rememeber hybrid orbitals can be made. Elements in coloum 4 can have 4 bond capacity due to them beings able to take an electron from the s orbital.
Explain Bonds types depending on the electronegativity
Explain How to find the charge on a polyatomic Ion
draw the lewis dot structure for that polyatomic ion. Add or take away electrons to make all the elements have a full octet.
What are you doing when you balance an equation?
Making the same amount of elements on each side of the reaction. No elements are appearing out of this air.
In single displacement reactions. What Can cause no reaction to occur?
When the lone element (metal) has is lower in ractivity than the other metal.
Explain the steps of a lewis dot diagram
What are the rules for naming molecular compounds (non-metal–non-metal)
What are the rules of naming Ionic bond molecules?
Explain the equation used to show a reaction of 2 aq solutions of salts.
What is 1 mole?
describe finding the limiting reactant of an equation?
Set up a proportions equation. Making the variable in front of the molcules as a proportion and the moles as a proportion.
