Chem Flashcards
What is diffusion?
diffusion is when molecules move from a high concentration (where there are lots) to a lower concentration (where there aren’t so many). This happens until they are evenly spread.
What is osmosis?
When the molecules that are being spread are water.
What percentage of the air is Nitrogen?
78%
What percentage of the air is Oxygen?
21%
What percentage of the air is argon?
0.9
What percentage of the air is Co2?
0.04%
What are electrolytes?
They are solutions of ions in water.
What happens when we sweat?
We lose salts and sugars along with water.
What do sports drinks help us do?
They help us replace our lost electrolytes.
What do we need in order to move?
Energy from food. Some foods have more energy than others.
What foods give us the most energy?
Fats and oils.
What do carbohydrates do?
They give us energy slowly.
What colour does protein make biuret solution turn?
purple
What colour does glucose turn Benedict solution?
brick orange
what colour does starch turn iodine turn?
black
