What is the windpipe?
The tube that allows air to enter and leave the lungs.
What does cartilage do in the windpipe?
It helps keep the windpipe open.
What does the diaphragm do?
It contracts and relaxes when we breath in and out.
What do the air sacs do?
Oxygen passes in to the blood and carbon dioxide passes out of the lungs.
What happens when you exercise?
Your breathing rate, blood pressure, pulse rate and carbon dioxide levels all increase.
What is your breathing rate?
The number of breaths you take in one minute.
What can smoking cause?
Cancer, lung disease, heart disease.
What are bones linked together by?
Joints.
Name two hinge joints.
Knee, elbow.
How do hinge joints move?
The same way as opening a door, with no rotation.
Name two ball and socket joints.
Hip, shoulder.
How do ball and socket joints move?
Back and forth in all directions and rotation.
What do muscles allow bones to do?
Move.
How do muscles work?
They work in antagonistic pairs. e.g the hamstrings contract and the quads relax to bend the leg.
Name the muscles in our arms.
Bicep, triceps.
