16
Q

What are the dip errors on a magnetic compass?

A

Magnetic compass will tilt due to magnetic force

17
Q

UNOS?

A

Undershoot North, Overshoot South

18
Q

What is the formula to correct for UNOS?

A

1/2(Lattitude) + 15

19
Q

What is the acceleration error of the magnetic compass?

A

ANDS

20
Q

ANDS?

A

Accelerate North Decelerate South

21
Q

What is oscillation error of the magnetic compass?

A

A combination of multiple errors, could happen while going through turbulence.

22
Q

Where does the cabin heat come from?

A

Exhaust manifold

23
Q

What should you be cautious about when turning on the cabin heat?

A

Carbon Monoxide poisoning

24
Q

What is the emergency frequency?

A

121.5 frequency

25
Q

What are the emergency squaks?

A

7500 - Hijack
7600 - loss of communication
7700 - Emergency

26
Q

You are lost.. what should you do?

A
Confess
Climb
Circle
Conserve
Communicate
27
Q

What is hyperventilation?

A

Too little carbon dioxide in blood

28
Q

What is spatial disorientation?

A

The brain not properly interpreting the signals it receives from the rest of the body

29
Q

What are the systems used to detect movement?

A

Vestibular- inner ear
Somatosensory- feeling with hands
visual system- eyes

30
Q

What is the leans?

A

Happens when you enter a banked turn too slowly.

You feel like you’re upright, but you’re actually turning.

31
Q

What is the Coriolis Illusion?

A

You stay in a constant turn long enough for the fluid in your ears to stop moving.

If you take a look elsewhere this could trick your brain into thinking your moving somewhere you’re not.

32
Q

What is graveyard spiral?

A

Stay in a turn long enough, fluid in ears stop moving. When you return to level flight you feel like your turning in the opposite direction so you return back to the previous turn. Aircraft loses altitude so you pitch up, back tightening the spiral

33
Q

What is somatogravic illusion?

A

Rapid acceleration (takeoff) makes you feel like your pitched up, so you pitch down

34
Q

What is inversion illusion?

A

Quick change from climb to level flight may trick you to think your tumbling backward

35
Q

What is elevator illusion?

A

Fast upward vertical acceleration (updraft) can trick you into being in a climb.

36
Q

What are the different definitions of night?

A

Sunset to sunrise - lights
Civil twilights - log flight time
1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise - currency
