What are the four important documents in UK constitutional development
Magna Carta, Bill Of Rights, Acts of Settlement, Acts of Union
Magna Carta
1215, sets out that no one is above the law and sets out that any free man has a right to a fair trial
Bill of rights
1689, bill of rights established the idea that the monarchs power is reliant on the consent of Parliament
Acts of settlement
1701, this stated that only a Protestant could become monarch and gave control over the line of succession to the throne to Parliament
Acts of union
Acts that established the union between England and Scotland (1707) and Ireland (1801)
