What is a transom?
A bar of wood or stone across the top of a door or window

A window divided into four parts by a transom and mullion of stone

A large ornamental holder for candles or lights

A style of art using grotesque figures and designs = looking strange, ugly, or unnatural so as to cause fear or laughter
