The monk is a very manly man. He is not very devoted to the church like he should be. He is bald, fat, and wears a love knot even though monks are not supposed to fall in love or marry. He eats, drinks, and hunts and doesn’t do much else.

The friar is a hypocrite. He is supposed to beg and uses what he gets to help the poor, but instead he hates poor people and cannot stand to be around them. He is also very dishonest and uses what he gets to charm women. He is wanton and sells trinkets to ladies.

The Reeve is the overseers of his lord’s manor and follows his job very carefully and diligently. His lord’s manor prospers under his reeve. The reeve steals from his lord. He knows everybody’s business. He is very skinny.

He is very irritable, gets drunk very often, and is does not seem qualified for his job. He uses the few Latin words he knows in attempt to appear educated. His face is scarred from leprosy. He is ugly and smells really bad.

A

The Pardoner has long, thin, straight, greasy, yellow hair and has no beard. He is supposed to grant papal indulgences but he only wants to make a profit for himself. He is good at singing and preaching when at church. He might be gay.

The host is the leader of all the poeple going on the pilgrimage. He is big, loud, and merry but has a quick temper. He controls the telling of the stories.

He believes perfect pleasure equals perfect happiness. He has a white beard and is a householder. He is an Epicurean and believes in living a life of pleasure and no moderation.
