What type of villain is iago?
A machiavellian villain
What is Iago’s attitude towards women and how does he show this?
Mysogynist attitude towards women, shows this through his use of degrading language towards women and sees the flaws of men as being effeminate in nature (examples of what men shouldn’t do)
How does iago view himself? What does this say about his charracter, what quotes are there to back this up?
Veiws himself as being worthy of a great deal and feels he has been cheated out of his role by Cassio. May connote to his underlying insercurity anf his slightly unhinged belief he has to constantly remind himself of. “I know my price, i am worth no worse a place”
How is Iago viewed across literature?
One of the most sophisticated villains ever written.
What is Iago’s views towards relationships?
He is unable to understand love or being in a loving relationship with someone, this is shown in the way that he treats his wife Emilia.
How are iagos ideas conveyed throughout the play?
He speaks in monologues at the begining when he is explaining his motives and future actions. Makes various speeches but never fully outlines his motives for his actions to the audience.
What does Desdemonas decieval of her father illustrate?
Her potential untrustworthy nature or how she has a great deal of potential and does not widh to waste it, when she wants something she will generally get it.
How is Desmonas character shown towards the end of the play?
Her ability to willingly take her death “nobody, i myself, farewell” shows her potentially sbmissive side but it also shows how she is loyal to the end, and not a single faceted character.
How does the pecieval of Desdemonas character change throughout the play?
She begons the play as someone who is superemely independant, even able to stand up in front of the venetian court and ends it as a woman who is trying to convice her lover of her innocence.
How does Emilia’s character change throughout the course of the play?
She goes from being one of iagos puppets to being her own woman andstanding up for herself as wll as her mistress.
What costs Emilia her life?
Her insistence to out the truth surrounding her mistress and her friends death. In this sense she becomes paralell to desdemona as a woman who is silenced. However, with emilia, it is more so because she is tryng to speak out about injustices rather than because she has been percieved to have done something wrong
What brings people towards othello?
Hs exocticness and also the rank that he commands in venetian society
What are the tensions that define Othellos character?
The tensions between his. Victimisation of himself and the torment he potentially subject to in a foreign culture and land.
How does othello cativate others?
Through his speech “i thinkt his tale would win my daughter to if she were here”
How is roderigo like the rest of the characters?
He doesn’t realise hes being manipulated by iago until it is too late
